SoftBank Robotics Group (SBRG) formed a joint venture with a Hong Kong biomedical company, Avalon SteriTech (Avalon), recently, to create new technologies and solutions in the field of cleaning and bio-decontamination robots to meet growing global demand amid COVID-19 pandemic.

The joint venture combines expertise of Avalon’s strengths in biotechnology and healthcare, and SBRG’s expertise in AI, automation and robotics to deliver intelligent and effective solutions that transcend conventional concepts of hygiene, according to the Sales Director of SoftBank Robotics Hong Kong, Mr Ronald Yip.
He said, “Collaboration is key to success especially in technology field. SoftBank Robotics has the core technology in AI and existing customer network in Hong Kong and beyond, while Avalon has expertise in advanced disinfection and sanitization technologies. We combined our effort to develop innovative products and technologies not only for the local market, but we also export them worldwide through the sales network of SoftBank Robotics.”
He added, “This joint venture with Avalon sets a good example for us to adopt local business environment by partnering with local company. We also partner with property developers and property management companies. With SBRG’s strong global brand identity, we see working with local partners helps accelerate business expansion in the local market more effectively. We are targeting to increase the workforce in coming months and will start a new office for R&D and after sales service.”
Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Mr Charles Ng, said, “We are happy to see SBRG’s continued expansion in Hong Kong through a joint venture with a local company. It gives rise to new technologies and new jobs to Hong Kong people. It shows the benefits of introducing foreign companies into Hong Kong. I am confident their business will continue to grow.”
